Come work with us.

Working at Phineas Brain & Mind means being a part of a active and empathic community that values pluralism and diversity, respect and dialogue, ongoing learning and collaboration, empiricism, and an integrative approach to individual and systems-focused patient care. We are always eager to meet interested, interesting talent who share our integrative vision.

OPEN ROLES

  • Ecological Behavioral Counselors (EBC)

We think of our EBC service as alliance-focused behavior counseling. An integration of ABA and PBS counseling traditions, we conduct our services in real-world contexts (i.e., in communities), including telehealth.

PBIS - Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) - Our counselors work predominantly with challenging interpersonal behaviors in real world contexts; behavior that prevents individuals from gaining the level of autonomy and independence they often value, following a profound life-changing event, such as a traumatic brain injury (TBI). We conduct assessments and develop effective, person-centered, behavioral treatment plans.

This position includes collaboration with an individual's supports to promote effective communication; training of caregivers in effective behavioral strategies and principles; and, in the context of altered expectations, helping individuals develop positive daily routines. This position may be well suited for clinicians with a strong cognitive-behavioral (e.g., CBT), positive behavioral supports (PBS), or applied behavior analysis (ABA) background, a strong cognitive-neuroscience background, and clinicians with some familiarity administering psychological tests and measures.

We work with individuals with neurogenic challenges who have significant behavioral difficulties that jeopardize their ability to remain in the community of their choice.

Masters Level and psychology doctoral students with clinical experience and a background in cognitive neuroscience or neuropsychology are strongly encouraged to apply.

Flexible Schedule. Starting rates: $30-33/hour (downstate), $28-31/hour (upstate), and negotiable, depending on experience. Minimum caseload commitment: 4 hours/week. (2-3 cases). MA in Relevant Discipline Required. Students with a BA in Psychology and significant clinical experience are encouraged to apply.

  • Integrative Ecological Counselors (IEC)

Our counselors work with individuals to increase, enhance, and develop a sense of autonomy (often bolstering a novel sense of identity) in real world settings. Our approach is relational, alliance-focused, integrative, and ecological. We provided services both in-person (in the individual’s home) and via telehealth.

CIC - Community Integration Counseling (CIC) - By integrating our knowledge of social and developmental psychology, cognitive-neuroscience, neuropsychology, psychotherapy, and post-acute neuro-rehabilitation perspectives, we work with individuals in their homes and communities to develop means of coping with difficult and painful emotions, to adjust to altered expectations, to better understand the interaction and relationship between their brain/body and mind, and to develop opportunities for more satisfying relationships. We participate on multidisciplinary treatment teams and serve as clinical experts in this role.

Psychology doctoral students (e.g., ABD), trainees at psychoanalytic institutes, as well as psychotherapists who wish to better understand how to integrate a cognitive neuroscience and neuropsychological focus within their psychotherapy practice are strongly encouraged to apply.

Flexible schedule. Starting rates: $32-35/hour (downstate), $30-33/hour (upstate), and negotiable, depending on experience. Minimum caseload commitment: 4 hours/week. (typically 4 cases). MA in relevant discipline required.

  • Living Skills Trainers

Our trainers work directly with individuals, both via telehealth and in-person, helping individuals increase their sense of independence and cope with difficult feelings and challenging behavioral patterns. Our trainers work with individuals in concrete, real-world environments (e.g., the bank, the supermarket, the university): we train independence where it often matters most.

ILST - Independent Living Skills Training (ILST) -Our approach is systematic, structured, and didactic; our ILSTs are person-centered and alliance-focused. Our community intervention strives to enact behavioral-educational, and emotional-motivational strategies toward the development of increased independence and autonomy as we work toward increased life-satisfaction.

ILST counselors train individuals to become more independent by partnering with them as they learn to effectively manage their daily affairs and better understand and explore new opportunities for socialization and personal growth.

ILST services may include assessment, training, supervision, and assistance to an individual with issues in one or several of the following areas: self-care, medication management, task completion, communication skills, interpersonal skills, socialization, sensory/motor skills, mobility, community transportation skills, problem solving skills, money management, pre-vocational skills, and skills to maintain a household. ILST is a strengths-based approach that teaches functional behavior in response to environmental challenges and helps increase, for example, adaptive work-arounds and novel insights.

Psychology and Social Work Students, and early Career Social Workers are strongly encouraged to apply, as well as clinicians (e.g., case managers) interested in better understanding brain-behavior relationships as these manifest in clinical practice.

Starting Rates: $22-24/hour (downstate)/$19-21/hour (upstate), and negotiable, depending on experience. Minimum caseload commitment: 8 hours/week. (2-4 cases). BA in relevant discipline required in addition to relevant experience. MA preferred. Candidates with an AA degree, and significant human service experience, are encouraged to apply).
